Crop System Models training at ICRISAT

CROP SYSTEM MODELS TRAINING AT ICRISAT

by PIM | April 7, 2015

As part of its activities under PIM and the Global Futures & Strategic Foresight (GFSF) program, the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) organized a five-day training program “Cropping System Models: Application in Land Resource Management”, which took place on 23-27 March this year at ICRISAT headquarters in Patancheru, India.

About 30 participants from India, the Philippines, Jordan, Ethiopia, and the United States attended the training course, along with crop modelers from national agricultural research systems and other CGIAR centers participating in GFSF, such as CIMMYT, ICARDA, and IRRI. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) of the government of India sponsored 10 participants for this course.

The participants discussed, among other issues, how best to evaluate potential crop production, and related risks to sustainability; weather and genetic coefficients; water limited production and soil experiment data and how to perform seasonal analysis for the nitrogen limited production. Read more here>>
